Sujala Balaji
Founder and CEO, Kosha Foods

“Sujala is a dreamer and creator who dreams of a world where everyone is well nourished and no one is dying from hunger/poverty”

Born and raised in India, personally having struggled with poverty growing up, she was inspired by the great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Abdul Kalam.

She immigrated to Canada in her early twenties, went on to become a Certified Food Scientist and worked in the corporate food industry for over 12 years, came to the realization that she needs to be the change to address some of the problems prevailing in the society for decades.

She strongly believed in sharing the responsibility to take action against hunger, poverty and malnutrition when the UN declared its Sustainable Development Goals in 2015 and that’s when the idea of Kosha Foods was born.

Paying it Forward

Our millets are sourced directly from small scale organic farmers in India in collaboration with the non-profit group Tribal Health Initiative. Our business model is unique and goes beyond the conventional fair trade practices.

We believe in establishing personal human connection withe the farmers that produce the food and in understanding their challenges and issues facing sustainable agriculture so we can actively help them live their best life.

Kosha Foods gives back 5% of the profits towards promoting the well-being of farmers as a measure to end hunger and poverty.
